PROOF · COMMUNITY & SEVA
A community platform for an institution older than software
The problem
A math serving a devoted community across generations needed two things done with equal care: a digital home for the community and a seva booking system - devotees reserving offerings and services, often for specific dates that matter deeply, with records the institution must keep faithfully. Software for a temple carries a different kind of requirement: it must be dependable, respectful and simple enough for every generation of devotee.
What we built
The community platform and a seva booking system: devotee records, seva schedules and availability, bookings and confirmations and the administrative views the math's staff use daily. Designed for users from teenagers to elders and for administrators who are custodians first and computer users second.
In service
Serving the community it belongs to, day in and day out.
“The application has remained fundamentally unchanged since it was released in April 2021 - proof that it addressed every need we placed on the team.”

We assigned Varuni Systems the task of developing the software for our Seva module - a central, user-friendly application to accept bookings for poojas performed in the various temples, at multiple locations. It had to be online at all times at every booking window in every temple, while ensuring the rules for accepting and performing each pooja, as per Sanatan Dharma, were followed for every booking.
The complications were real: the application had to list the materials needed for each pooja, continuously synchronise all bookings and prepare for the poojari a complete daily list of the poojas to be performed at each location. It had to synchronise payment information with an existing ERP for up-to-date management reports, enforce access at multiple levels - user, supervisor, manager and administrator - and accept bookings by the English or the Hindu calendar, or a combination of both.
What impressed me was their ability to grasp not just the requirements but the nuance of every condition we imposed. My own role was to translate our requirements into something the database or the code could handle and I was struck by the way Chaitanya Chandel and his team readily accepted each challenge and soon found a way to solve it. Their never-say-die attitude is the reason the application was an immediate hit on release.
It has proved itself: users in institutions that had not yet migrated to the ERP insisted on using it for its convenience and the application has remained fundamentally unchanged since April 2021 - thanks to Varuni's diligent, sustained effort and the deep domain knowledge they brought to the project. Should I again be tasked with developing a complex application, my first choice would be Varuni Systems.
What it proves
Range and care. The same team that models sonar propagation builds software gentle enough for a temple's daily life - because good engineering is about serving the user in front of you, whoever they are.
