What does Varuni Systems do?
Varuni Systems is an Indian technology company that builds defence, maritime and industrial systems: naval tactical simulators, maritime training and certification platforms, underwater and through-metal acoustics, geospatial intelligence, and the custom operations software that institutions run on. It was founded in 2010 and is based in Ahmedabad.
Who founded Varuni Systems, and what is its track record?
Varuni Systems was founded in 2010 by ex-Indian Navy officers. It has won five iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) challenges, was incubated by CIIE at IIM Ahmedabad and by IIT Hyderabad, and supplies the Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Coast Guard and ITBP alongside civil clients.
What is ASTT?
ASTT is Varuni Systems' Action Speed Tactical Trainer: a browser-based, scenario-driven simulator that trains operators, watchkeepers and command teams for time-critical maritime and defence missions. It models radar, ESM/EW, passive and active sonar, fire control, AIS and weather, and runs from a single station to a networked multi-cubicle setup.
What is TrainEdge?
TrainEdge is Varuni Systems' maritime training management platform. It handles course scheduling, candidate records, assessments, certificate issuance and audit-ready DG Shipping and STCW compliance reporting. It manages over 10,000 candidates and 3,000 courses annually and has run inside India's largest maritime training institutions for more than a decade.
Can Varuni Systems deploy software on-premise or air-gapped?
Yes. Every system Varuni Systems builds can run on the client's own network and hardware, including fully air-gapped and closed-network deployments with no cloud dependency and no data leaving the client's perimeter. This includes its self-hosted AI and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
Does Varuni Systems build custom ERP and operations software?
Yes. Alongside its defence work, Varuni Systems builds custom ERPs and operations platforms — maritime training operations for NAMAC, field service dispatch for Aithertech, temple seva booking for A Math, and school and warehouse transport management for ArcaTrips.
What GIS stack does Varuni Systems build on?
Varuni Systems builds geospatial systems on open-source foundations — PostGIS, GDAL, QGIS, GeoServer, MapProxy and OpenLayers — the same stack national mapping agencies use. There are no per-seat licences and no vendor lock-in, and the source can be audited, which is what makes deployment on a closed or air-gapped network possible in the first place.
Can a GIS system run air-gapped, with no internet?
Yes. Varuni Systems' geospatial deployments carry their own basemaps, tiles and elevation data — GEBCO bathymetry, SRTM terrain and S-57 electronic navigational charts — served from inside the client's perimeter. No component calls a tile server on the public internet, so the system works on a network with no route to it.
Does Varuni Systems build AI systems?
Yes. Varuni Systems has a growing AI practice: retrieval-augmented generation over a client's own documents, LLM integration and fine-tuning, document intelligence, and machine learning on signal and sensor data. It is offered as a custom engagement rather than an off-the-shelf product, and everything runs on the client's own infrastructure.
Can an LLM or RAG system run air-gapped, with no internet?
Yes. Varuni Systems builds retrieval-augmented generation that runs entirely on the client's own hardware: open-weight models, the vector store and the source documents all sit inside the perimeter, and nothing calls a third-party API. This is how an organisation that cannot send data to a cloud service — a defence body, a hospital, a bank — can still use a large language model over its own knowledge base.
Does Varuni Systems build smart city solutions?
Yes. Varuni Systems builds urban geospatial and command-centre systems on the same open-source GIS core as its defence work: utility and asset registries, transport and route planning, drainage and flood modelling, and dashboards that fuse municipal feeds. The company is based in Ahmedabad and is currently in discussion on smart city work for the city. Everything runs on the customer's own infrastructure.
Where is Varuni Systems located?
Varuni Systems' engineering office is at D1110, The First, Nyay Marg, Vastrapur, Ahmedabad 380015, Gujarat, India. It can be reached at info@varunisystems.com or +91 79491 68407.
How does Varuni Systems start an engagement?
Varuni Systems asks prospective clients to describe the problem rather than write a specification. An engineer — not a salesperson — reviews it and replies within two working days with an honest assessment of whether it can be built, how, and what a prototype would take.
