Air Operations Trainer
The air war, in the loop
Overview
Fight, defend, deny: the whole air battle, trained.
The Air Operations Trainer is a browser-based simulator that trains air forces and air-defence units in the decisions that decide an air campaign: who shoots first, which layer of the defence engages, when the jammer goes up and how long the fuel lasts. It is built for fighters, strike aircraft, airborne early warning, tankers, helicopters, patrol aircraft and drones, with radar, infra-red, ESM, jammers and datalinks, and the consoles that run them. It is part of the Varuni Simulation Suite.
What it does
Inside the system.
AIR
Shoot first, shoot true
A missile is flown, not rolled. Boost, coast, a limited seeker and a manoeuvring target decide the shot.
DEF
Defend in depth
Early warning cues the area and point defences and the fighters, and a raid meets each layer in turn.
EW
Own the spectrum
Jam, burn through, hop frequency, dispense chaff, go silent. The radar and the seeker have answers too.
FUL
Keep them flying
Fuel burns by regime and height. Bingo calls a jet home, and a tanker gives only what its tank holds.
SED
Suppress the defences
Anti-radiation missiles home on an emitter, so a radar that stays on can be hit and one that goes dark is safe.
JNT
Work with the other services
Ships, submarines and ground forces share the game, so air power is trained beside the forces it serves.
Under the hood
Engineering depth.
What it models, by area: the physics and the doctrine underneath each of the six games it ships with (air battle, layered air defence, jamming and ECCM, chaff and the seeker, a day of tanker coverage, and swarm warfare).
CMB
Air combat
Missiles fly boost, sustain and an unpowered coast with active-radar, semi-active and infra-red seekers that look only so far off the nose. Turn rate, climb rate, ceiling and stall speed bound every order, and doctrine is set per side and unit: weapons control, emission control and the kill probability demanded before a shot.
SAM
Air defence and sensors
Early-warning radar, area and point-defence SAMs, MANPADS and fighters on patrol, with airborne early warning holding the picture. Tracks pass over the datalink, so one radar's picture cues another's battery.
EWF
Electronic warfare
Escort and stand-off jammers radiate real power and the victim's scope shows a noise strobe and a JAMMING banner. Burnthrough, frequency agility, and chaff that blooms, holds and thins faster in wind.
STK
Strike and suppression
Strike packages fly authored ingress and egress legs to targets held in a catalogue. Anti-radiation missiles are defeated if the emitter goes silent. Drone swarms of relay, sensor and weapon drones, and loitering munitions, are included.
TNK
Fuel, tankers and sorties
Fuel burns by regime and height, bingo sends an aircraft home by itself, tankers pass fuel from their own tanks and relief tankers keep a station covered. Aircraft launch from and recover to ships.
PLN
Planning from staff papers
Force Capability sheets in Excel and bases and operational locations become a playable game. An uploaded air tasking order builds strike packages, air-defence orbits, an early-warning schedule and tanker tracks.
Deployment
Where it runs.
A web page on any operating system, with tablet layouts: nothing is installed on the training network. It runs on-premise or fully air-gapped, and the charts and the data are held on your own server. Your aircraft, airspace and authority are authored as data, not code: aircraft and air defences are library entries, and games, bases, targets and weather are checked against a schema before they run.
Frequently asked
Straight answers.
What is the Air Operations Trainer?
The Air Operations Trainer is a browser-based simulator from Varuni Systems that trains fighter combat, air defence, electronic warfare and air logistics, from one trainee to a whole air campaign.
Who is the Air Operations Trainer for?
Air forces and the joint commands that fight with them, air-defence units (early warning, SAM and fighter control teams), instructors who build, run, hold and assess a game, and training schools.
What does the Air Operations Trainer model?
Air combat with flown missiles, layered air defence, electronic warfare (jamming, burnthrough, frequency agility and chaff), strike and suppression of enemy air defences, fuel and tanker logistics, and planning from staff papers.
Can it train air, naval and army forces in one exercise?
Yes. Aircraft, surface ships, submarines and ground vehicles share one game, one clock and one set of rules, so air power is trained beside the forces it serves: air cover for a carrier group, close air support, coastal air defence and air anti-submarine work.
How is the Air Operations Trainer deployed?
It runs in a web browser on any operating system, on-premise or fully air-gapped, with the charts and data held on your own server. Nothing is installed on the training network. It carries about 1,000 units in one exercise, at up to 100x time acceleration.
How do instructors control and replay a game?
The instructor starts, pauses and restarts, sets the game speed, stops at each serial, and hands any unit to a trainee. The umpire's view shows every force. A recorded game can be replayed with scrubbing, held at a decision and forked into a new live game from that moment.
How can I see the Air Operations Trainer?
Contact Varuni Systems through the contact page or at info@varunisystems.com to request a demonstration. Tell us your force, your airspace and the roles you need to train, and we will propose a configuration and a phased rollout.
